SUMMARY:Liona Boyd
DESCRIPTION:Liona Boyd\, since her 1975 debut performance at Carnegie Hall\, New York\, has enthralled audiences worldwide with her romantic and unique brand of classical\, folk and world music. Tracing the timeline—Spanish-British heritage\, emigrating to Canada in 1959\, “falling in love with classical guitar at the age of 13”\, graduating from the University of Toronto with a music degree in 1972—the traditional classical music path seemed quite clear. However\, Liona embarked on a far more adventurous journey. In addition to her solo career\, she began touring with and opening for Canadian folk legend\, Gordon Lightfoot. She went on to perform and record with many artists of diverse genres\, a small sampling of whom include Chet Atkins\, Canadian Brass\, Eric Clapton\, Olivia Newton-John\, Yo Yo Ma and Al Di Meola. Also spanning a wide range of styles\, Liona has released 28 studio\, live or compilation albums\, five of which went gold\, and three platinum. No stranger to awards and accolades\, her highlights include five Junos\, the Order of Canada\, five honorary doctorates and\, in June 2018\, the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award from the JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Concerto Competition.  \nFollowing her 2009 diagnosis of focal dystonia\, Liona tweaked her playing style\, added singing to her repertoire and two years ago began touring with protege\, Andrew Dolson\, classically trained in both guitar and voice. Audiences can anticipate solo and duet classical guitar pieces\, songs—both familiar and new\, personal anecdotes from a storied career … all delivered with charm\, humour and grace. \nDon’t miss An Intimate Evening with ‘the first lady of guitar’ … Liona Boyd!

SUMMARY:Séan McCann Sings
DESCRIPTION:Séan is coming Back to Huntsville! \nSéan McCann bought his first guitar in 1989 which he affectionately calls “Old Brown”. Old Brown has been around. He was there for the first song Séan ever wrote. He was there as Séan founded the acclaimed and multi-million selling band that would change his life. He was there to hold Séan up many a night as he struggled with alcoholism\, and he has been there to help guide Séan out of the darkness with music as his medicine.  \nJohn Lennon once sang “You can live a lie until you die. One thing you can’t hide is when you’re crippled inside.” After exiting the internationally renowned folk group Great Big Sea and publicly admitting a secret past in which he used alcohol to mask the pain of sexual abuse by a priest ; Séan stopped lying to himself and found his truth and his own voice. With the release of his 5th solo album\, “There’s a Place”\, he continues his journey as a singer\, songwriter\, and now a sought after speaker and mental health advocate with Old Brown by his side and a simple message: “You are not alone.” \nHis 2014 album “Help Your Self” was a battle cry; a line in the sand which announced that he was ready to change and it resonated with people in a way Séan never could have expected. It helped him understand that he wasn’t alone and that telling his story could help others as much as it helped him. 2015’s “You Know I Love You” was inspired by the love he found in sharing that story and an attempt to find a new and real connection in a world that had turned inward to its smart phones. Now comes “There’s a Place” which was produced by Jeremy Fisher\, features the beautiful voice of Nova Scotia singer/songwriter Meaghan Smith\, and is a collection of songs from a man who is trying to keep his head up when we are tempted to keep them buried in our screens; it’s the story of a man no longer crippled by a lie and who has changed his narrative by not letting his history define him and never forgetting……that he is not alone.

SUMMARY:The Barra MacNeils
DESCRIPTION:The Barra MacNeils are touring this spring in support of their latest release On The Bright Side\, an exquisite collection of everything their fans love. It’s an upbeat album\, with fiddle tunes that you know will erupt into a flurry of step-dancing on stage. When Lucy sings the heart-wrenching Ribhinn Donn\, whether or not you ‘have the Gaelic’\, have a tissue handy. You’ll need it. The distinctive family harmonies; an array of rhythmic instruments weaving through and around various themes—some decidedly classical but then\, suddenly\, very traditional Cape Breton; the lads singing a cappella; a thoughtful solo gradually merging into a frenzied all-hands-on-deck medley … it exudes the passion and energy familiar to anyone who has ever experienced The Barra MacNeils stage show. For the unfamiliar\, critical acclaim says it all: “a treasure of the East Coast\, rich with tradition and unmatched in ensemble performance.” … “The Barra MacNeils capture the feeling of ‘close your eyes and you’re there’.” … “They play what they like and folks like what they play.” … “Moments of beauty as well as raucous memories like this can linger forever.” \nAs always\, the five MacNeil siblings—Lucy\, Boyd\, Stewart\, Kyle and Sheumas—combine on a vast array of instruments including accordian\, guitar\, piano\, fiddle\, bodhran\, mandolin\, banjo\, Celtic harp\, tin whistles\, bouzouki\, flute … underpinned by the nimble-fingered Jamie Gatti on bass. If you’ve ever been wowed by their Christmas show\, be prepared to have the wow factor raised exponentially as the band is unleashed from the strictures of the season. “Nothing but dumbstruck awe.” Don’t miss On The Bright Side with The Barra MacNeils!

The featured performers take their roles to new heights.  \nShamus Black as your Brian Johnson/Bon Scott lead singer. Fact: A recording of The AC/DC Show–CANADA’s performance from February\, 2016 was personally taken back to Los Angeles by a member of AC/DC’s management in Early March of 2016 when Brian Johnson was diagnosed with severe hearing damage. This recording with Shamus is believed to have been the only Canadian entry that was considered in the search for their new singer. Axl Rose of Guns and Roses was eventually chosen for the role. \nGino Del Sole as the Angus Young lead guitarist. Fact: Sudbury native and Humber College Graduate Gino Del Sole has emerged as a top candidate in starring guitar roles with Norwegian Breakaways ‘Rock of Ages’ and the Mirvisch production of ‘Kinky Boots’. Gino’s attention to minute details is evident in his role as musical director of the show. \nThe incredibly challenging role of the rhythm section is performed and carried by: Steve MacPherson as the Malcolm Young rhythm guitarist.
