SUMMARY:Blue Rodeo
DESCRIPTION:The definition of a rebel is someone who goes against the grain. For close to thirty years now\, Blue Rodeo has taken the road less travelled – and succeeded far beyond anyone’s expectations. The band emerged in the early 80’s as a countrified rock band in the era of hair metal and glossy pop. Despite sticking out like a sore thumb (or maybe because of it)\, their single “Try” became omni-present on radio across Canada and set in motion a three decade long career of headlining every club\, theatre and arena in Canada. In 1993\, when grunge rock was squeezing commercial rock off the radio\, they recorded their most acoustic album\, Five Days In July\, and scored their biggest hit selling over a half million copies of that one record alone. \nNow\, with their 16th Warner Music Canada studio album – Many A Mile – Blue Rodeo’s successes are measured in terms that include induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame (2012)\, receiving a Governor General’s Performing Arts Award (2014) and acknowledgement that the band has steadfastly defined itself by its own terms\, and in the years that ensued\, sold in excess of four million records. \nReflecting back on three decades of successes and those early Blue Rodeo days\, both Jim and Greg are able to fully appreciate where the band sits in the pantheon of music. “Success seemed really real when we were entertaining people at The Horseshoe. That was the top of the heap for us\,” Cuddy says. “When you look back\, you realize that it has just been this beautiful dream.” \nTicket Prices: \nPlatinum (Sec B & C) $97\nGold (Sec A\,D\,F & G) $90\nSilver (Sec E & H) $85\nPlus $3 Service Charge & HST \nMEMBERS DISCOUNT: $10/ticket. SUMMARY:Johnny Reid
DESCRIPTION:Love Someone – An Intimate Evening with Johnny Reid\nMulti-platinum award artist brings a stripped down intimate concert of songs & stories! \nSix-time JUNO Award winning singer-songwriter Johnny Reid has just released his brand new full length album\, Love Someone via Universal Music Canada\, the country’s leading music company. Love Someone is available digitally as well as on CD and 2LP 180 Gram Vinyl\, stream or order the album HERE. \nLove Someone is the artist’s eleventh album and features 14-tracks in which Reid leans into his country roots. The album marks the artist’s most intimate and inspired collection of songs to date. True to Reid’s wide range of repertoire\, the album is a refreshing blend of country\, pop and soulful ballads. Highlights include the album’s lead single\, the pop country track\, “Hey Delilah\,” the beautifully heartfelt\, “I Owe It All To You\,” and “Have A Little Faith In Me” a cover of the John Hiatt classic. As a bonus\, the album includes a special acoustic version of Reid’s moving song\, “People Like You\,” dedicated to the people of Nova Scotia after the devastating tragedy that hit their tight knit community in April 2020. In his new video series\, Reid shares the stories behind Love Someone and reveals his songwriting process. Watch Take Some Time\, Love Someone: The Stories Behind The Music HERE. \n“Love Someone is a call to action\,” says Reid. “The pandemic has taught us all a lot about the significance of time and how we spend it. We need to look out for each other now more than ever. ‘Roll your windows down\, feel the sun\, take some time\, love someone.’” \nNext up for the multi-platinum artist is a long-awaited live tour. The Love Someone National Tour is set to be one of the longest running Canadian tours in history\, with tour dates and details being announced later this year. The extensive tour will go cross-country\, mainly in small theatres in secondary markets\, something Reid has wanted to do for quite some time as an opportunity to connect with his audience through storytelling on a more intimate level.  \nOver an illustrious career spanning more than two decades\, JUNO Award winning singer-songwriter Johnny Reid has captured the hearts of fans and audiences around the world. The critically acclaimed singer is widely known for his lyrical honesty and musical ability\, as demonstrated by a vast catalogue of hit songs\, platinum selling albums\, 26 Canadian Country Music Awards\, six JUNO Awards and multiple sold-out national arena tours. \nJoin Johnny Reid’s Tartan Army HERE\, to receive updates on new music and events from the artist.

DESCRIPTION:HfA is thrilled to welcome Canadian Rock Legend Tom Cochrane with Red Rider to Deerhurst Resort on September 15\, 2022. \nABOUT THE ARTIST \nOver the course of a long and illustrious career now spanning more than 40 years\, the pride of Lynn Lake\, Manitoba has covered more terrain than the Franklin expedition. From early beginnings as a folk-based singer/songwriter playing the coffeehouses of Toronto’s famed Yorkville scene in the early ’70s\, Tom became the driving force in adventurous rockers Red Rider prior to achieving massive international success (over six million copies sold worldwide and diamond-sales status at home) with breakthrough 1991 album Mad Mad World and its anthemic hit “Life Is A Highway.”

SUMMARY:Huntsville String Quartet
DESCRIPTION:The Huntsville String Quartet\, or the HSQ\, had its first rehearsal in the winter of 2020. Philip Kashap\, violin teacher and Director of the Huntsville Suzuki School of Music\, and his wife Martha\, also a violinist\, were pleasantly surprised to find a violist and a cellist in Huntsville. Behn Strople\, a violist\, and Daniel Dennis\, cellist\, it turned out\, were also eager to play chamber music. Together they have formed a convivial\, intergenerational string quartet\, a harmonious combination of musical backgrounds and experience. In the short time they have been together they have performed some of the greatest quartets including those of Haydn\, Mozart\, Beethoven\, Mendelssohn\, Schubert\, Dvorak\, Ravel\, and Barber. They have performed on the Huntsville Festival of the Arts summer concerts\, and in a series of concerts held at the home of the Huntsville Suzuki School of Music\, Bethel Church\, and at the Huntsville Public Library. The HSQ is thrilled to be part of the Huntsville Festival of the Arts again this summer.

SUMMARY:Tom Wilson & Iskwē | ᐃᐢᑫᐧᐤ
DESCRIPTION:At a time when artists are finding themselves increasingly isolated\, musicians Tom Wilson and iskwē | ᐃᐢᑫᐧᐤ come together to create something truly beautiful. \nABOUT THE ARTISTS:\nIn March 2020 Tom Wilson asked iskwē (and Ojibway jazz musician\, Chuck Copenace) to be a guest performer with him on the Indspire Awards\, duetting with him on his song\, Blue Moon Drive. The two artists had never performed together but the chemistry and the magic was instantaneous. The artists came together again to record a full band\, studio version of the song.  It’s been a really inspiring project for everyone involved and we’re thrilled to share it with you and we hope you love it as much as we do. \niskwē | ᐃᐢᑫᐧᐤ is\, among many other things\, an artist – a creator and communicator of music and of movement\, of pictures\, poetry and prose. And through it all\, she’s a teller of stories that have impacted our past and will inform our future. \nTom Wilson is a Canadian music legend\, famed storyteller and visual artist. In his memoir\, Beautiful Scars\, Wilson reveals the impact of discovering his Indigenous heritage after a chance encounter with a stranger caused him to question everything he had always known about his past. Musically\, Wilson is best known for his work with Blackie & The Rodeo Kings and Lee Harvey Osmond\, the latter receiving a 2020 Juno Award for the album “Mohawk”.

SUMMARY:Kathleen Edwards
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE ARTIST\nIf you ask Kathleen Edwards\, the best thing she ever did was quit. \nBy 2014\, the singer-songwriter had released four studio albums and amassed widespread critical acclaim. She had been touring since the release of her 2012 album\, Voyageur\, and the prospect of returning home—only to start writing her way toward another album\, and another tour—felt impossibly daunting. She put her guitar away\, at least for awhile: she moved back to her hometown of Ottawa and settled down in Stittsville\, an old village on the western edge of town. A running inside joke with bandmate Jim Bryson about opening a coffee shop and naming it “Quitters” became reality. For years\, the only new music she heard was playing in the background while she served her regulars at the shop\, where she slowly started to fall in love with music again. \n“I had no desire to write\, no desire to play\,” she says of what she refers to as her “working sabbatical.” “It allowed me all the time and space I needed to even just enjoy listening to music again. There were so many times where\, if I was thinking about my own writing or playing\, my heart just wasn’t in it. Opening a cafe gave me such a clean break from the weight of what I was carrying\, I worked my ass off building a shop\, I didn’t have to be ‘just a singer’ anymore.” \nBut in 2018\, she received an unexpected phone call that changed that. Maren Morris\, a longtime fan\, invited her to Nashville for a songwriting session. Edwards accepted\, and “Good Woman\,” their collaboration\, wound up on Morris’ 2019 album\, GIRL. “It reminded me that writing and creating music is entirely my wheelhouse\, and it was so easy to just jump back in and do that\,” she says of her fortuitous time in Nashville. “Funny enough\, the third person in the room for those two days was Ian Fitchuk\, and [we] ended up starting the process of producing a record.” \nEdwards made her long-anticipated return to music with Total Freedom\, her fifth studio album out August 14th\, 2021 via Dualtone Records. Written and recorded in Canada and Nashville with longtime collaborator/guitarist\, Jim Bryson\, and Grammy-winning songwriter/producer\, Fitchuk\, Total Freedom is both a return to form and a “hard reset\,” one that empowered Edwards to write and perform entirely on her terms.

SUMMARY:Crystal Shawanda
DESCRIPTION:“Shawanda is a real deal blues artist who isn’t dabbling in blues so much as channeling it.”\nSteven Ovadia\, Elmore Magazine \nRecent Juno winner for outstanding blues album\, Crystal Shawanda is highly established as one of the leading female Blues singers in North America. The Ojibwe Potawatomi Indigenous singer was born in Wiikwemkoong First Nation on Manitoulin Island in Ontario and even though she now lives in Nashville\, she keeps her roots close to her heart and soul. One has to look no further than her latest CD “Church House Blues” to feel the connection. \nABOUT THE ARTIST\n \nThere’s a tendency these days to try to pigeonhole any artist that attempts to breach the boundaries. Chalk it up to the restrictions of radio playlists or the media’s attempt to strictly define musicians by the music it believes artists ought to be making\, creative instincts be damned. Nevertheless Crystal Shawanda opted to defy those demands and chart her own path forward. \nNevertheless Crystal Shawanda opted to defy those demands and chart her own path forward. Initially signed to RCA in 2007\, she hit her stride as a country singer and songwriter when she scored a top 20 hit with her song “You Can Let Go” and subsequently tallied sales of over 50\,000 copies of her debut album Dawn of a New Day and subsequently debuted in the Billboard Top 20. Nevertheless\, she began to realize that the blues had captured her muse\, and with that\, she left the label\, shifted her stance and began recording albums that reflected her love of blues and her natural affinity for that sound. \nAs she once told an interviewer\, “The whole time I was singing Patsy Cline on stage\, I was singing Etta James at home.” \nHer new album Church House Blues (due April 17th on True North Records) reflects that dedication and devotion and finds her co-writing seven of the ten songs on the album. Produced by her husband\, collaborator and cowriter Dewayne Strobel\, it not only marks her fourth blues effort to date\, but one of her most demonstrative as well. That’s evident at the outset\, from the fiery delivery of the title track\, the riveting drive of “New Orleans Is Sinking\,” and the assertive strains of “Rather Be Alone\,” to the quiet\, contemplative desire and despair that scorches “Evil Memory\,” the radio-ready hooks illuminated in “Hey Love\,” and the emotive strains instilled in the bittersweet ballads “When It Comes To Love” and “Bigger Than the Blues.” At the center of it all is Crystal’s evocative vocals\, a powerful\, provocative force of nature that elevates each encounter and sends the album’s entries soaring towards the stratosphere. \nCredit is also due some spectacular guest artists\, including session superstar Dave Roe on bass (Johnny Cash\, Yola\, Ceelo Green\, among the many)\, the McCrary Sisters on backing vocals\, Dana Robbins of Delbert McClinton’s band on sax\, and Peter Keys of Lynyrd Skynyrd playing keys.

SUMMARY:Gord Sinclair
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE ARTIST \nSurviving life’s dizzying highs and crushing lows is a cakewalk compared to writing about them. But if you can do it\, the results are very often liberating\, cathartic\, and a gateway to electrifying music. Witness Gord Sinclair’s Taxi Dancers. \nThe solo debut from the musician best known as bassist and songwriter with Canadian rock legends The Tragically Hip brings several firsts. Chiefly\, it’s the first release from a member of the band since the passing of frontman Gord Downie in 2017\, an event that united the nation. \nTaxi Dancers is a farewell of sorts\, fearlessly exploring Sinclair’s despair about losing a lifelong friend and bandmate. But it is also a clear-eyed survey of what’s good in the world\, and a profound statement about why sorrow must be viewed in tandem with joy. Both are elemental aspects of living\, and music — especially rock music\, with its boundless capacity for nuance\, shading\, and sheer emotional heft — is perhaps life’s purest mirror.

SUMMARY:The Jim Cuddy Band
DESCRIPTION:Jim Cuddy returns to festival stage with treasure trove of songs that have become indelible in the soundtrack of our Canadian lives. His extraordinatry catalogue of songs continues to find new ways to balance personal reflection and plainspoken storytelling\, remaining both intimate and accessible. \nABOUT THE ARTIST \nAs one half of one of Blue Rodeo’s songwriting partnership\, Jim Cuddy has one of the most recognizable voices in Canadian music thanks to omnipresent hits such as “Try\,” “5 Days In May\,” and “Bad Timing.” As a group Blue Rodeo has sold over 5 million records world-wide\, won countless JUNO Awards\, been inducted in to the Canadian Music Hall of Fame\, received a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame and Jim (along with songwriting partner Greg Keelor) was invested as Officers of the Order of Canada. \nIn 1998\, in between Blue Rodeo projects\, Jim released his first solo album All In Time and hit the road with the eponymous Jim Cuddy Band featuring Colin Cripps (guitar)\, Anne Lindsay (fiddle)\, Joel Anderson (drums)\, Bazil Donovan (bass) and Steve O’Connor (keyboards). Since that first release the Jim has recorded three more solo albums; The Light That Guides You Home (2006)\, Skyscraper Soul (2011)\, Constellation (2018). Jim’s latest release\, Countrywide Soul\, is a celebration of sorts – a celebration of music and the musicians who join him on stage each night. \nAfter an extensive tour in support of their album\, Constellation\, The Jim Cuddy Band reconvened at Jim’s family farm in Southern Ontario. Inspired by the band’s live show\, Jim wanted to capture this energy on record and showcase each member’s skill\, allowing them to stretch out and shine. Produced by Tim Vesely\, Jim Cuddy and Colin Cripps\, Countrywide Soul was recorded live on the top floor of Jim’s barn and kept as natural as possible to retain the woody sound of the barn board room and the energy that only comes from playing together live.
