In the rough and tumble world of rock and roll\, The Weber Brothers have been around the block. \nOver the past 15 years they’ve recorded 10 independent albums and toured extensively throughout the U.S.\, Canada and Europe. Braithwaite was dubbed a “national treasure” by Bluz FM radio host Danny Marks. Toronto-born and raised\, Braithwaite’s ancestors traveled to Canada from Virginia via the Underground Railroad\, a personal history that influences her musical collaborations. Appearances at shows in North America\, the UK\, and Europe have contributed to her reputation as a world-class blues singer. Kansas-born Whiteley moved with his family to Toronto\, where as a teenage performer he met blues legend Lonnie Johnson\, who became his mentor. SUMMARY:Etwell Concert Series - Tobin Spring and the Muskoka Blues Connection
DESCRIPTION:Huntsville-based bluesman Tobin Spring has been making waves in Muskoka since he picked up the guitar at age twelve. This triple-threat guitar player\, singer\, and songwriter makes for a high energy and soulful live show.  Tobin is quickly establishing himself as a blues force to be reckoned with. \nTobin has opened for a variety of artists including Big Sugar\, Blue Rodeo\, Kim Mitchell\, Serena Ryder\, and April Wine. He’s had four of his songs put into heavy rotation on Moose FM stations across Ontario (“It’s Only Life”\, “September”\, “Higher Height” and “Both Sides Of The Coin”) He also wrote and produced the theme song for the 2010 Ontario Winter Games entitled “Be Here”. \nIn 2005 Tobin created the highly successful Northern Blues Review. There has since been eleven different incarnations of the show and each time it has featured some of Ontario’s finest blues musicians. Tobin runs a music school is Huntsville and performs regularly as the lead singer/guitarist for his band Laganza. DESCRIPTION:Carlos has toured Canada regularly since 1996 and tours often in Germany and the United States. He has played all the major jazz\, blues\, and folk festivals across Canada. \nBorn in Havana\, Cuba\, del Junco (loosely translated “of the reeds”) immigrated with his family at the age of one. He bent his first note on a harmonica when he was fourteen\, making his debut with his high school math teacher at a student talent night. \nPlaying a ten hole diatonic harmonica\, Carlos has developed the unique ability to play chromatically by using a recently developed “overblow” technique taught to him by jazz virtuoso Howard Levy. Overall\, this approach to the diatonic harmonica\, although much more difficult to achieve\, is in many ways more expressive and communicative than the mechanized tone produced by the chromatic harmonica. Carlos is one of the few pioneers of this overblow method\, bringing musical credibility to what has still been considered by many in the music industry – a fringe folk instrument. DESCRIPTION:Jake and The Fundamentals are inspired by Chicago blues\, Delta blues\, good ol’ Rock & Roll\, R&B\, and everything in between. In 1965 Thomas took his guitar to Detroit and tried to make a living.  For a seventeen-year-old rookie from the wilds of northern Ontario it was like a crash course at “The University of Blues and R&B”.  Over the next decade he shared the stage with great artists like Muddy Waters\, Taj Mahal\, Johnny Winter\, Doug Kershaw\, and worked with many Toronto R&B artists like George Olliver and Bill King.  After all these years of guitar playing\, Thomas says it is still a thrill and a true pleasure. And he does so with his good natured wit. \nWhile his first three releases firmly established Max in the Blues idiom\, it was on his fourth\, the Juno nominated A Lesson I’ve Learned\, that Johnny added to his Blues sensibilities\, and found his groove. And that groove had more to do with Southern Soul than straight up Blues. In the real world\, he has been nomianted for Junos and Blues Music Awards and he is a seven-time Maple Blues Award winner. And he continues to tour — across Canada and the United State\, with two or three trips a year to Europe — with his hard-hitting band.
