In the short time they have been together they have performed some of the greatest quartets including those of Haydn\, Mozart\, Beethoven\, Mendelssohn\, Schubert\, Dvorak\, Ravel\, and Barber. They have performed on the Huntsville Festival of the Arts summer concerts\, and in a series of concerts held at the home of the Huntsville Suzuki School of Music\, Bethel Church\, and at the Huntsville Public Library. SUMMARY:Tom Wilson & Iskwē | ᐃᐢᑫᐧᐤ

And through it all\, she’s a teller of stories that have impacted our past and will inform our future. \nTom Wilson is a Canadian music legend\, famed storyteller and visual artist. In his memoir\, Beautiful Scars\, Wilson reveals the impact of discovering his Indigenous heritage after a chance encounter with a stranger caused him to question everything he had always known about his past. Musically\, Wilson is best known for his work with Blackie & The Rodeo Kings and Lee Harvey Osmond\, the latter receiving a 2020 Juno Award for the album “Mohawk”.

SUMMARY:Kathleen Edwards
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE ARTIST\nIf you ask Kathleen Edwards\, the best thing she ever did was quit. \nBy 2014\, the singer-songwriter had released four studio albums and amassed widespread critical acclaim. She had been touring since the release of her 2012 album\, Voyageur\, and the prospect of returning home—only to start writing her way toward another album\, and another tour—felt impossibly daunting. She put her guitar away\, at least for awhile: she moved back to her hometown of Ottawa and settled down in Stittsville\, an old village on the western edge of town. A running inside joke with bandmate Jim Bryson about opening a coffee shop and naming it “Quitters” became reality. For years\, the only new music she heard was playing in the background while she served her regulars at the shop\, where she slowly started to fall in love with music again. \n“I had no desire to write\, no desire to play\,” she says of what she refers to as her “working sabbatical.” “It allowed me all the time and space I needed to even just enjoy listening to music again. There were so many times where\, if I was thinking about my own writing or playing\, my heart just wasn’t in it. Opening a cafe gave me such a clean break from the weight of what I was carrying\, I worked my ass off building a shop\, I didn’t have to be ‘just a singer’ anymore.” \nBut in 2018\, she received an unexpected phone call that changed that. Maren Morris\, a longtime fan\, invited her to Nashville for a songwriting session. Edwards accepted\, and “Good Woman\,” their collaboration\, wound up on Morris’ 2019 album\, GIRL. “It reminded me that writing and creating music is entirely my wheelhouse\, and it was so easy to just jump back in and do that\,” she says of her fortuitous time in Nashville. “Funny enough\, the third person in the room for those two days was Ian Fitchuk\, and [we] ended up starting the process of producing a record.” \nEdwards made her long-anticipated return to music with Total Freedom\, her fifth studio album out August 14th\, 2021 via Dualtone Records. Written and recorded in Canada and Nashville with longtime collaborator/guitarist\, Jim Bryson\, and Grammy-winning songwriter/producer\, Fitchuk\, Total Freedom is both a return to form and a “hard reset\,” one that empowered Edwards to write and perform entirely on her terms.

SUMMARY:Gord Sinclair
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE ARTIST \nSurviving life’s dizzying highs and crushing lows is a cakewalk compared to writing about them. But if you can do it\, the results are very often liberating\, cathartic\, and a gateway to electrifying music. Witness Gord Sinclair’s Taxi Dancers. \nThe solo debut from the musician best known as bassist and songwriter with Canadian rock legends The Tragically Hip brings several firsts. Chiefly\, it’s the first release from a member of the band since the passing of frontman Gord Downie in 2017\, an event that united the nation. \nTaxi Dancers is a farewell of sorts\, fearlessly exploring Sinclair’s despair about losing a lifelong friend and bandmate. But it is also a clear-eyed survey of what’s good in the world\, and a profound statement about why sorrow must be viewed in tandem with joy. Both are elemental aspects of living\, and music — especially rock music\, with its boundless capacity for nuance\, shading\, and sheer emotional heft — is perhaps life’s purest mirror.

SUMMARY:The Jim Cuddy Band
DESCRIPTION:Jim Cuddy returns to festival stage with treasure trove of songs that have become indelible in the soundtrack of our Canadian lives. His extraordinatry catalogue of songs continues to find new ways to balance personal reflection and plainspoken storytelling\, remaining both intimate and accessible. \nABOUT THE ARTIST \nAs one half of one of Blue Rodeo’s songwriting partnership\, Jim Cuddy has one of the most recognizable voices in Canadian music thanks to omnipresent hits such as “Try\,” “5 Days In May\,” and “Bad Timing.” As a group Blue Rodeo has sold over 5 million records world-wide\, won countless JUNO Awards\, been inducted in to the Canadian Music Hall of Fame\, received a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame and Jim (along with songwriting partner Greg Keelor) was invested as Officers of the Order of Canada. \nIn 1998\, in between Blue Rodeo projects\, Jim released his first solo album All In Time and hit the road with the eponymous Jim Cuddy Band featuring Colin Cripps (guitar)\, Anne Lindsay (fiddle)\, Joel Anderson (drums)\, Bazil Donovan (bass) and Steve O’Connor (keyboards). Since that first release the Jim has recorded three more solo albums; The Light That Guides You Home (2006)\, Skyscraper Soul (2011)\, Constellation (2018). Jim’s latest release\, Countrywide Soul\, is a celebration of sorts – a celebration of music and the musicians who join him on stage each night. \nAfter an extensive tour in support of their album\, Constellation\, The Jim Cuddy Band reconvened at Jim’s family farm in Southern Ontario. Inspired by the band’s live show\, Jim wanted to capture this energy on record and showcase each member’s skill\, allowing them to stretch out and shine. Produced by Tim Vesely\, Jim Cuddy and Colin Cripps\, Countrywide Soul was recorded live on the top floor of Jim’s barn and kept as natural as possible to retain the woody sound of the barn board room and the energy that only comes from playing together live.

SUMMARY:Tom & Winnie - Art\, Mystery and Tragedy
DESCRIPTION:Roy MacGregor’s passion and fascination with Tom Thomson first led him to write Canoe Lake\, a novel inspired by a distant relative’s affair with one of Canada’s greatest painters. Why does a man who died over a century ago and painted relatively little still have such a grip on the imagination? \nThe eccentric spinster Winnie Trainor was a fixture of Roy MacGregor’s childhood in Huntsville. She was considered too odd to be a truly romantic figure in the eyes of the town\, but the locals knew that Canada’s most famous painter had once been in love with her\, and that she had never gotten over his untimely death. She kept some paintings he gave her in a six-quart basket she’d leave with the neighbours on her rare trips out of town\, and in the summers she’d make the trip from her family cottage\, where Thomson used to stay\, on foot to the graveyard up the hill\, where fans of the artist occasionally left bouquets. There she would clear away the flowers. After all\, as far as anyone knew\, he wasn’t there: she had arranged at his family’s request for him to be exhumed and moved to a cemetery near Owen Sound. \nAs Roy MacGregor’s richly detailed work of non-fiction Northern Light reveals\, not much is as it seems when it comes to Tom Thomson\, the most iconic of Canadian painters. Philandering deadbeat or visionary artist and gentleman\, victim of accidental drowning or deliberate murder\, the man’s myth has grown to obscure the real view — and the answers to the mysteries are finally revealed in this up close and personal presentation. \nJoin us as renowned author Roy MacGregor re-examines the mysteries of Thomson’s life\, loves and violent death in this non-fiction up close and personal presentation about Art\, Mystery and Tragedy. Tom Thomson\, Life\, Love and Death.

SUMMARY:William Prince
DESCRIPTION:William Prince approaches the big questions with humility and curiosity. Prince’s influences and references\, from the gospel of his childhood to the pantheon of classic outlaw country singers\, baseball and the great beyond\, shape his approach to songcraft\, a masterclass in skillful simplicity. \nABOUT THE ARTIST \nPrince’s JUNO Award winning debut Earthly Days\, released in 2015 and subsequently reissued by Glassnote Records and Six Shooter Records (Canada)\, introduced the songwriter’s poignant philosophy and rich baritone to the world. Prince made his breakout with the song “Breathless\,” which found audiences worldwide and reached the B List at BBC’s Radio 2. Reliever\, Prince’s sophomore album (2020)\, saw Prince reconvene with producers Scott Nolan in Winnipeg and Dave Cobb in Nashville. \nFor his second album\, Prince began with a single word\, Reliever\, which informed a collection of exceptionally rendered explorations of what\, who and how peace is found. Relievers come in all forms; for Prince\, it is song. Recent accolades include the Polaris Music Prize Long List\, SOCAN Songwriting Prize (“The Spark”) and the German Record Critics’ Award for Album of the Year. \nFor his newest release Gospel First Nation\, William Prince tells us this story through the music of his childhood\, songs of faith\, struggle and grace. These are songs he learned and sang with his father in that chapel named for his great grandfathers\, all preachers. William’s family home\, the community of Peguis First Nation\, is named for Prince’s ancestor\, Chief Peguis\, one of the highest regarded leaders of his time. When Chief Peguis was baptized\, he took the name William King; in keeping with royal protocol\, as an expression of pride and with the unknown weight of the consequences of all of the decisions he made with the arrival of colonizers on the land\, named his children Princes. Like names\, the songs of Gospel First Nation link generations\, from son to father to grandfather and back even further. \nPrince’s trajectory from Peguis First Nation in Manitoba\, Canada\, to opening for Neil Young\, has seen the relative newcomer find esteem and career-changing opportunity wherever he performs.

SUMMARY:Michael Kaeshammer
DESCRIPTION:An internationally renowned master of the keyboard and a first-class entertainer\, Michael Kaeshammer has developed a unique style that weaves threads of classical\, jazz\, blues\, boogie-woogie\, and stride into a whirlwind of joyful music-making. Dazzling\, daring\, and endearing. \nABOUT THE ARTIST \nMichael Kaeshammer has invested a lot – countless hours at the keyboard\, hundreds of recordings\, thousands of live performances\, millions of miles in the air and on the road – all in pursuit of a mastery of 12 notes across 88 keys. But for the acclaimed Canadian pianist and singer\, there is no set destination\, no achievable end point on his path; it’s all about the journey itself\, and that journey will always be ongoing. \n“When I play\, I don’t worry about if it’s jazz or pop or classical or whatever; I just play what I hear and let the music decide what it wants to be\,” begins Kaeshammer. “Sure\, there are different styles\, different eras\, different approaches\, but when you really look at it\, it’s all just music based on 12 notes.” \nBorn and bred in Germany\, Kaeshammer began performing club\, theatre\, and festival stages throughout Europe in his early teens and continued on that trajectory after emigrating to Canada’s West Coast with his family in the mid-‘90s. His first studio album\, Blue Keys\, dropped in 1996 and spurred a consistent sequence of heralded releases and high-profile international performances. Through it all\, the world watched as he grew from child prodigy to full-fledged phenom; from unparalleled pianist to virtuosic songwriter. \n“I do listen to a lot of music\, but I’m not overly influenced by other people; it’s more about trying to learn something new every day\,” muses Kaeshammer about his musical evolution. “I’ll take pretty much any opportunity if it’s going to help me discover new things and help me progress.” \nThose opportunities have been as wide-reaching as the artist’s subsequent breadth of style\, and include: opening slots for the likes of Ray Charles and Anne Murray; stints backing singers like Marva Wright\, the late blues queen of New Orleans; co-writing sessions with rockers Randy Bachman and Colin James; official Olympic Games performances in several world cities; and TV specials on numerous networks – including one set to premiere on PBS in March 2020.
