SUMMARY:The Snow Queen Outdoor Play
DESCRIPTION:The Huntsville Festival of the Arts (HfA) is thrilled to offer a unique opportunity for youth ages 7-12 to participate in the creation and performance of the famous Fairy Tale “The Snow Queen” by Hans Christian Andersen (which is also the inspiration for the movie Frozen). \nParticipants will work with local professional artists for 12 weeks to create all aspects of the performance including acting\, costumes\, music and building giant puppets. The creation will be led by local artists Catherine Luce (visual/puppetry)\, Christina Serra (theatre) and Sarah Spring (music) and more. The final performance will take place February 19-21\, 2021 starting at 5pm each day. The audience will follow the action of the play to different outdoor spaces around downtown Huntsville. Love skiing\, snowshoeing\, fat biking\, and skating? Head to Historic Downtown Huntsville February 22 for a free\, family-friendly festival celebrating winter. What better way to beat the winter blues than to embrace all of your favourite winter activities on a snow-covered Main Street surrounded by Huntsville’s finest food and shopping. \nSnowFest runs all day Saturday until 10:00 pm\, with winter activities planned all day. Bring your own equipment to enjoy the unique Main Street winter experience by nordic skiing\, snowshoeing or fat biking. You can also bring your snowboard or alpine skis and try out the rail course set up while the kids are at the Riglet Park courtesy of Hidden Valley Highlands Ski Area. Algonquin Outfitters will be providing a limited number of snowshoes and fat bikes for you to try\, so be sure to head there early. \nAlso watch for Huntsville’s youth nordic ski programs hosted right on Main Street. The Huntsville Bunny Rabbit & Jack Rabbit Nordic Ski Program will run from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm and the Lynx & Track Attack Nordic Ski Program will take place from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. \nWith the snow covering Main Street all the way from Centre Street to Brunel Rd.\, we’ve packed Downtown with activities for everyone. There will be a disc golf course\, dog sledding demos and of course skating on the River Mill Park rink. Put your skills to the test with a variety of carnival games including mini putt\, a fishing pond\, curling and inflated body zorbs to enjoy. Fancy something a little different? Try Huntsville’s famous Axe Throwing or breathe in the great outdoors with Snoga (Snow Yoga) courtesy of Ahimsa. \nNeed a break from all the outdoor fun? Eat at one of Main Street’s many restaurants or head to The Algonquin Theatre’s Partners’ Hall to enjoy a special line up of SnowFest activities. With a wildlife theme\, Speaking of Wildlife will have interactive table displays set up from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm in addition to two very special 30 minute live wildlife shows taking place at 9:30 and 12:30. There will also be a mix of arts and crafts for all ages to participate in courtesy of the students of Tawingo College. \nAt 4:00 pm make way for the fat tires! For fat bike enthusiasts\, Main Street will transform into an 850 metre criterium style snow course for the Muskoka Fat Bike Race presented by the Huntsville Mountain Bike Association. With timed races in kid\, beginner and competitive classes\, the course promises to be fast and flowing with lots of opportunity for passing and exciting finishes. There are both medals and cash prizes up for grabs for the winners so click here to register. \nDid someone say pub crawl? Yes\, but not like you’ve experienced before! Six local establishments will be offering winter themed food and drinks for your SnowFest enjoyment. There’s no crawling here though…snowshoe\, ski\, walk or take a horse-drawn sleigh to traverse Main Street while you sample unique fare to the tune of some of Huntsville’s best live music. Marigold Unique Flavours\, The Mill on Main\, Huntsville Brewhouse\, That Little Place by the Lights\, Moose Delaneys\, and Canvas Brewing Co will all be celebrating SnowFest\, offering themed experiences along the route. Be sure to pick up your Pub Crawl Passport at your first stop. Collect all six stamps by ordering a food item or drink at each of the participating bars/restaurants and then hand your completed passport in at the event Info Desk before 10pm on Saturday. You will be entered into the draw with a chance to win a $50 gift card from one of the pub crawl establishments. \nCap off SnowFest with a concert by Juno award winning Canadian band Blackie and the Rodeo Kings. From street theatre\, to music\, to sculpture\, to film\, and interactive exhibits\, there is something for everyone\, and many ways to join in the fun.  Come explore\, discover\, debate\, create and participate.  No experience necessary\, just a desire to stay up late and play! \nNuit Blanche North is presented in partnership by the Huntsville Festival of the Arts and Edge of the Woods Theatre.  The goal of the event is to present fun\, engaging and accessible works of art\, and to support the local economy by bringing visitors downtown\, and providing opportunities for local artists to create and present their work.

From street theatre\, to music\, to sculpture\, to film\, and interactive exhibits\, there is something for everyone\, and many ways to join in the fun.  Come explore\, discover\, debate\, create and participate.  No experience necessary\, just a desire to stay up late and play! \nNuit Blanche North is presented in partnership by the Huntsville Festival of the Arts and Edge of the Woods Theatre.  The goal of the event is to present fun\, engaging and accessible works of art\, and to support the local economy by bringing visitors downtown\, and providing opportunities for local artists to create and present their work.

There will be a Rotary Food Court\, featuring Bullocks all day bacon on a bun\, Henriettas Pine Bakery\, Farmer’s Daughter\, the Algonquin Café and more. Returning is Moose Delaney’s beer tent and also returning is the Huntsville Festival/Camp Tawingo Art Splash arts and crafts event for the whole family. \nWith guaranteed good weather this will be a perfect atmosphere for a day of fun and excitement along Huntsville’s waterfront. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nDETAILS AT A GLANCE\n\nThe parade of specially decorated bathtubs will begin making its way down the Main Street at 11 a.m. At the same time\, in River Mill Park the children’s Art Splash event gets underway. It runs from 10am to 1pm. \nThe first of three Bathtub Derby heats begins at noon with bathtubs furiously racing through obstacles on the Muskoka River as they make their way to the finish line. Between races entertainment will be provided by the fly guy\, showing you just how crazy it can get on the water. \nAlso throughout the day raffle tickets will be available for a chance to win a NyDock floating picnic table with additional prizes from The Hunt House and East Side Marios. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWHY A BATHTUB DERBY?\n\nIn 2013 the Rotary Club of Huntsville resurrected the original Bathtub Derby from the 1990’s under the name Rotary DockFest. Thousands of people attended the event in 2013 and a decision was made to turn Rotary DockFest into an annual event with proceeds alternating between local charities each year. \nFunds raised this year will go to support the Rotary Club’s commitment to support the installation of an inclusive playground at Huntsville Public School. Other funds will be used for local projects/groups in need\, throughout the community.
