SUMMARY:A Portage Flyer Christmas - Evening Train Ride to Santa
DESCRIPTION:Our Portage Flyer Christmas is what we like to call a “supermagicated” event that has become a tradition among families looking to spend some great quality time in the fresh air and surrounded by holiday spirit. Once you make your way to Huntsville\, travel up Brunel Rd 1 km and look for the black and white “Portage Flyer Christmas Train Ride” signs. Arrive to our Rotary Village Station and enjoy complimentary hot chocolate and cookies and join in on a carol or two. The train coaches have literally a thousand lights and of course Santa is waiting at the end of the line to hear your side of the story. The combination of a train\, lights and Santa is almost too much for the adults\, let alone the kids. Simply purchase your $5.00 per person ticket (Santa pays the tax) prior to boarding. We travel along the Muskoka River on our 1km of track to Fairy Lake where riders may debark \, visit with Santa and catch the next train back or remain on board for the return trip. Each trip takes about 20 minutes and dress warmly as the coaches are open-aired. Plenty of free parking is available either nearby or directly across from our station. \nParking at the Huntsville High School\, Canada Summit Centre\, Active Living Centre or directly across the street from the event.\nNo advance ticket sales or reserve seating. Arrive and enjoy complimentary hot chocolate and cookies (while supplies last) and purchase your tickets enroute to boarding.

SUMMARY:Festival of the Arts: "Tales From Muskoka" A Celebration of Stina Nyquist
DESCRIPTION:Playwright Stina Nyquist was an important contributor to the Huntsville theatre scene for almost 20 years prior to her passing in 2016. Her plays painted a picture of life in our area during its earliest days\, and highlighted the struggles and trials of its hard scrabble inhabitants. For three nights the Festival will pay homage to Stina and invite you to join them on the grounds of one of her favourite venues\, Muskoka Heritage Place\, to learn\, laugh and remember. \nDirector Greg Perras opens the evening with ‘Once Discovered’ an adaptation of Stina’s ‘Ripples From The Bush’ and ‘Letters From The Bush’. Presented through narration “Once Discovered\,” follows 3 contemporary women as they discover and share correspondence from their descendants. This short one-act comedy/drama\, highlights historical accounts of success and strife experienced by the first settlers in Muskoka. \nPresented in MHP’s intimate church building the audience will then be invited to relocate to another site\, stopping for a sample of old fashioned lemonade and biscuits along the way. \nOnce settled in their new surroundings the audience will be treated to ‘Up The Blasted Trail’ an adaptation of the play of the same name by Stina\, directed by Suzanne Riverin. The play takes us back in time\, providing a snapshot of the lives of six characters living through the reality of life in Muskoka during the mid 1880’s. \nEntertaining\, educational and experiential these evenings promise to be one of the  highlights of our summer programming season!
