SUMMARY:National Indigenous Peoples Day
DESCRIPTION:Join the National Indigenous Peoples Day (NIPD) celebration in Huntsville with Indigenous music\, education\, storytelling\, food\, arts and crafts. This free celebration starts at 1:00pm in River Mill Park and will continue into the evening hours. \nNIPD is a special occasion to learn more about the cultural and linguistic diversity as well as the contributions of the First Nations\, Inuit and Métis peoples. Learning about Indigenous people\, places and experiences is a step forward each Canadian can take on the path to reconciliation. All are welcome to attend\, listen\, learn and celebrate! \nThe following schedule highlights some of the events at the NIPD celebration: \n1:00pm\nEnhance your knowledge with Indigenous storytelling\, presented by Tim McGregor\, from Birch Island located in the Northern Channel. This is an excellent education opportunity that is open to both schools and public. \n3:00pm\nVendor market starts at 3:00pm and will remain open for the duration of the event. These talented vendors will be selling their beadwork\, jewelry\, tapestries\, sculptures and so much more! \n5:00pm\nTim McGregor\, a traditional Anishinabenini dancer\, will hit the River Mill Park stage with regalia teachings accompanied by an Indigenous drummer. Showcasing the Northern Traditional style of dance\, the audience is in for a treat with his performance. \n6:00pm\nSection 53 is a local Duo with a sound that has been described as folk/rock band with Indigenous undertones. They will be bringing special local artists Aaron Kowalchuk (Inuit)\, Shawn Roper\, Rob Almond\, and James Currie to perform with them on National Indigenous Peoples Day. Their first release\, Beautiful Light\, is available on all music platforms. \n7:00pm\nOji-Cree singer songwriter and producer\, Aysanabee will take the stage. Aysanabee was first recognized performing for the Indigenous Music Awards emerging artist series in 2020.

Engage with the artists while you watch the beautiful paintings being created! \nOnce completed\, these canoes will be displayed in Downtown Huntsville as part of the Group of Seven Outdoor Gallery Tour.

DESCRIPTION:Francophone artist Marc Walter will lead the creation of two epic statues constructed with woven branches in celebration of the connections we maintain during this Pandemic. These sculptures will be built alongside the public in River Mill Park. Members will have the opportunity to add to the works of art by tying ribbons in recognition of that which they draw strength from. These works will be featured as part of Nuit Blanche North 2021\, and other events. \nThis event will follow the guidance and regulations set out by the Province of Ontario’s Stage 2 Reopening Framework As such\, the following rules will be in place. \n\nVisitors can observe the creation but must remain at least 2 meters of space from each other.\nThe number of designated watching positions will not exceed 5 at a time.\nThe ribbons will be “serve yourself”\, and participants are required to use hand sanitizer before they take part.

DESCRIPTION:The Huntsville Ukulele Group has expanded from it’s original 6 members to over 20 now and is expanding it’s travelling ukulele jam and sing-a-long off a private dock into the River Mill Park. \nJuly 18th and August 15th\, 2019\, 7p.m. to 9p.m. we will be at the River Mill Park band shell to play and sing with the community.  Songbooks with lyrics will be available the print off from our Facebook page in early July to bring with guests who want to join us in the park (if it rains event will be cancelled). \nFind us on Facebook at Huntsville Ukulele Group – Canada

SUMMARY:National Indigenous Peoples Day
DESCRIPTION:The Town of Huntsville is excited to announce a free public event in River Mill Park\, on National Indigenous Peoples Day June 21\, 2019 — the longest day of the year — and the start of summer in Muskoka. \nWith funding from the Department of Canadian Heritage\, the Juno award-winning Digging Roots — Raven Kanatakta and ShoShona Kish and their band — will mix a wide range of musical styles from folk\, rock\, blues and even hip hop\, to create unique and powerful sounds. Digging Roots won the Canadian Aboriginal Award for best group in 2007\, and more recently\, ShoShona won the Spirit of Folk Award at the International Folk Music Awards. In April 2019\, ShoShona Kish became the first artist in Canada to receive the prestigious WOMEX Professional Excellence Award. Digging Roots continue to share their culture and their talent to the delight of audiences all around the globe. \nThe free concert is suitable for all ages\, and everyone is welcome. John Rice\, Zahgausgai/Mukwa\, 3rd Degree Midewiwin will act as the Master of Ceremonies. Wasauksing’s Little Spirit Singers led by Deina Bomberry will perform at 6:30 pm\, with Digging Roots on stage from 7 to 8 pm. Runners will be serenaded by live bands along the route and at the start/finish line. \nJoin us after the race for a family-friendly\, licensed all ages Celebration Party in River Mill Park from 12:00 – 6:00pm. \n\nWhat is this CELEBRATION PARTY all about?\nThis party takes place in downtown Huntsville\, in River Mill Park. Think relaxing on the grass with your friends\, on the beautiful Muskoka waterfront\, with a beautiful open air stage. \nThe afternoon includes performances by three live bands on the DEERHURST RESORT MAINSTAGE. Each one has been chosen with fun & celebration in mind. They’ll be singing songs you know and love singing along with. There’s plenty of room for dancing – and sitting back and relaxing while you enjoy the show. The Huntsville Festival of the Arts is the genius behind both of these events. There’s going to be Busker Performances by the Disco Darlings\, strolling performances\, interactive hoop zone\, vendors and more! \nThis event is fun for all ages. This festival will showcase some of the best craft beer that our region and province has to offer. Located in Downtown Huntsville’s River Mill Park\, patrons will enjoy a view of the beautiful Muskoka River as they take in a day of sampling some exceptional craft beer and listen to some amazing local bands. \n\nTickets are available HERE. \n\nWant to bring the family?
