SUMMARY:National Indigenous Peoples Day
DESCRIPTION:The Town of Huntsville is excited to announce a free public event in River Mill Park\, on National Indigenous Peoples Day June 21\, 2019 — the longest day of the year — and the start of summer in Muskoka. \nWith funding from the Department of Canadian Heritage\, the Juno award-winning Digging Roots — Raven Kanatakta and ShoShona Kish and their band — will mix a wide range of musical styles from folk\, rock\, blues and even hip hop\, to create unique and powerful sounds. Digging Roots won the Canadian Aboriginal Award for best group in 2007\, and more recently\, ShoShona won the Spirit of Folk Award at the International Folk Music Awards. In April 2019\, ShoShona Kish became the first artist in Canada to receive the prestigious WOMEX Professional Excellence Award. Digging Roots continue to share their culture and their talent to the delight of audiences all around the globe. \nThe free concert is suitable for all ages\, and everyone is welcome. John Rice\, Zahgausgai/Mukwa\, 3rd Degree Midewiwin will act as the Master of Ceremonies. Wasauksing’s Little Spirit Singers led by Deina Bomberry will perform at 6:30 pm\, with Digging Roots on stage from 7 to 8 pm. Think relaxing on the grass with your friends\, on the beautiful Muskoka waterfront\, with a beautiful open air stage. \nThe afternoon includes performances by three live bands on the DEERHURST RESORT MAINSTAGE. Each one has been chosen with fun & celebration in mind. They’ll be singing songs you know and love singing along with. There’s plenty of room for dancing – and sitting back and relaxing while you enjoy the show. The hike helps build awareness and raise funds to ensure individuals and their family members facing end of life receive support at no charge. \nThe hike is also a way to celebrate and honour our loved ones in a special and meaningful way. \nThe Hike for Hospice takes place at River Mill Park (10 King Street in downtown Huntsville) on Sunday May 5\, 2019. Registration opens at 12:00 p.m. and hikers leave River Mill Park at 1:15 p.m. \nThe Hike is a family fundraising event which creates awareness about the need for compassionate end of life care and celebrates the donations made to support this need. Families and friends gather to hike\, enjoy event activities and goodies provided by local businesses. A very special Celebration of Life provides an opportunity to remember loved ones.

DESCRIPTION:Our early summer classic\, The Big East River X Marathon event may not be the longest event however it still is demanding and challenging. This 40km course follows flat-water rivers of the upper Muskoka River and Big East River with open water paddling on Lake Vernon. The Big East River X Family/Recreation event is intended to be a social\, friendly\, and fun event for families\, inexperienced paddlers\, or those just wanting share a day on the water. Being only 9km\, the course is achievable for most paddlers as it follows flat-water rivers and ventures only briefly into Lake Vernon. The Big East River X is a great event to step up your training for the Muskoka River X or just to try your hand at paddling and get on the water.

The best part of it all: the event is free\, rain/shine\, and open to music-lovers of all ages! \n“Music is magic – able to cross generational\, cultural\, and linguistic boundaries. ONtour is an opportunity for people from all walks of life to share in this communal experience\, to build community pride\, and to create cherished memories for years to com\,” said Eleanor McMahon\, Minister of Tourism\, Culture and Sport. \nFrom Peterborough to Blind River\, from Ajax to Kenora\, from Hamilton to Sudbury\, audiences will have the opportunity to attend a free concert featuring at least three acts.
